Kazakhstani tennis player Elena Rybakina commented on her loss to Belgian Elise Mertens in the third round of Wimbledon 2026. According to the athlete, she is dissatisfied with her game and intends to figure out why she has stopped showing her best tennis in recent weeks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
At the post-match press conference, Rybakina admitted that the result was disappointing for her.
"Yes, this is definitely not the result I wanted. Of course, I am dissatisfied," the tennis player said.
According to the Kazakhstani, the key reasons for the defeat were a large number of double faults and an unstable serve.
"I think in the first set I had quite a few opportunities to break. At the same time, I gave away my serve too easily, made too many double faults. Today my first serve was not working at all. It seems to me that the energy could have been better too. So there are many things I am unhappy with," Rybakina noted.
At the same time, the tennis player emphasized that her poor performance is not related to health problems.
"No, I have no physical problems," the athlete stated.
Commenting on the decline in results in recent tournaments, Rybakina admitted that she cannot yet explain the reasons for what is happening, despite intensive preparation.
"If I knew why, I probably wouldn't be in this situation now. I think I have been working well in recent weeks. Thanks to early exits from tournaments, I even had more opportunities to train. I definitely need to analyze everything and change something, because right now it's not working," she said.
After the grass season ends, Rybakina plans to take a short break before the North American hard court tournament series.
"First, I want to change the scenery a bit and just relax. Now I will take a complete break for a couple of days and not think about tennis at all, and then I will try to prepare well again," the tennis player noted.
The athlete also called the loss in the first set tie-break the turning point of the match.
"Of course, if you win the first set, you feel freer in the second. But I could not step up my game. On the contrary, I started making double faults again. In fact, I practically gave away this set myself," Rybakina admitted.
Speaking about the large number of sensational results at the current Wimbledon, the Kazakhstani noted that she did not follow the performances of other tennis players and does not believe that the level of play at the tournament has become higher than in previous years.
Concluding the press conference, Rybakina stated that she does not intend to worry about the defeat for long.
"I will just try to move on. I have lost many times and I am sure I will lose many more times. Of course, I am upset, but I think this state will last no more than a day or two," the tennis player concluded.
