Kazakhstan's No. 1 in women's singles Elena Rybakina has officially topped the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, after the rankings update, the Kazakh tennis player has 9,901 points. Rybakina moved from second to first place, overtaking Arina Sabalenka, who sits second with 7,875 points. The gap between the players is 2,026 points.
American Jessica Pegula completes the top three with 7,265 points. According to the federation, the US Open-2026 was the decisive tournament in the fight for first place. "The victory over China's Zheng Qinwen and reaching the semifinals secured Rybakina's leadership in the world rankings regardless of the tournament's subsequent results. At the start of the US Open, Arina Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff were also contending for first place," the federation said.
Rybakina not only claimed the status of world No. 1 but also finished the tournament with the championship title. In the final, she defeated Arina Sabalenka 6:4, 5:7, 6:2. This was Elena's first US Open title and her third career Grand Slam title.
Thus, 27-year-old Elena Rybakina became the 30th player in WTA history to rise to the top of the world rankings. She also became the first representative of Kazakhstan to lead the world rankings in singles among both men and women.
