Elena Rybakina (2) played her second match of the day at the WTA-500 Queen's Club Championships in London. In the quarterfinals, the Kazakhstani lost to Katie Boulter (73) of Great Britain with a score of 5:7, 6:2, 4:6. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Tournament organizers in London, delighted by the finally appearing sun, began to catch up on the schedule disrupted by bad weather. Following a very difficult match against last year's champion Tatjana Maria (52) of Germany, Rybakina had to play a second match on the same day.
This necessity also arose for most tennis players currently playing in London, not only in singles but also in doubles. In particular, the world's 29th-ranked pair of Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia and Olivia Nicholls of Britain, who won the quarterfinal against Anna Danilina (6)/Aleksandra Krunic (5) today, after a couple of hours of rest, also won the semifinal.
However, the physical demands in doubles are, of course, not comparable to singles. Both Rybakina and Boulter had to leave a lot of energy on the court. By and large, the world number two should beat the 73rd-ranked player in any condition, but this does not apply to the current Rybakina.
Missing many break opportunities, the Kazakhstani gifted a break to Boulter with a double fault on her serve at 5:5 in the first set. The Briton, with loud support from the home crowd, brought the lengthy set (1 hour and 3 minutes) to victory – 7:5.
Rybakina made her first break in the fourth game of the second set. After that, she confidently won the set 6:2. However, Elena again failed in the deciding set. She lost the match in 2 hours and 39 minutes – 5:7, 6:2, 4:6.
The tactics of Yuliya Starodubtseva (and before her, Anastasia Potapova and Elina Svitolina) work flawlessly. Opponents, without being particularly active, openly wait for Elena's mistakes. And she does not disappoint their expectations.
Kazakhstan's coach Stefano Vukov left after Rybakina's last match at Roland Garros 2026. The Croatian was also absent from the team box during matches in London. The world number two has suddenly lost the game with which she recently won in Melbourne.
The prize fund of the WTA-500 The HSBC Championships (sponsor name), which started on the courts of the Queen's Tennis Club in London, is $1.9 million. Over the years, the oldest tournament (first held in 1881) has been won by Margaret Court (Australia), Chris Evert (USA), Olga Morozova (USSR), and other stars.
The grass court tournament series precedes the third Grand Slam tournament of the calendar year. Wimbledon 2026 will take place from June 29 to July 12.
