Kazakhstan to Use Drones to Remove E-Scooters from Sidewalks

From August 25, e-scooters are banned from sidewalks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Now scooter riders can only ride on bike paths, bike lanes, and the shoulder of the roadway. All police resources will be deployed to catch violators: in major cities, roads will be patrolled by law enforcement officers on e-scooters. In addition, sidewalks will be monitored by CCTV cameras and drones.

Accident Statistics

"Since the beginning of the year, 139 accidents involving e-scooters have been registered, in which two people died," the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.

New Rules

Recall that from July 1, Kazakhs on e-scooters became full participants in road traffic. If a person on a scooter does not yield to a pedestrian, they face a fine of 2 MCI (8,650 tenge).

Earlier, Chairman of the Independent Automobile Union Eduard Edokov shared his concerns with Kursiv. In his opinion, after moving e-scooters to the road, the number of fatal accidents with them will increase sharply.
