Rescuers found alive a group of tourists who had lost contact during an ascent of Elbrus. All participants were evacuated from the mountain and handed over to medics for examination. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Baza.
According to Russian media, the search and rescue operation lasted more than six hours. The tourists last made contact at around 04:00 on August 17 in the area of Kosaya Polka on the southern slope of Elbrus.
Earlier it was reported that 14 rescuers from the Elbrus high-altitude search and rescue team of the Russian Emergencies Ministry were sent to search for the group. Specialists examined the route on the southern slope of the mountain.
The group consisted of 8 people, including a 14-year-old teenager. At the same time, the official statement of the regional Emergencies Ministry initially mentioned eight missing climbers.
As a result, all tourists were found alive and evacuated. After descending, they are being examined by medical personnel.
