Kazakh economist Anuar Nurtazin, in an interview with Kyrgyzstan's Nomad TV channel, stated that the attack of Ukrainian drones on tankers of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) may primarily harm the United States. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"As we understand, in this case, the strike was directed at tankers leased by the American side. Therefore, the main losses may be incurred by the United States," the expert said.
According to Nurtazin, Kazakhstan can appeal to a number of international organizations to compensate for the damage. However, such a step could create an unfavorable precedent for Kazakhstan in international arbitration. In the expert's opinion, the political influence of Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries in the international legal arena is still insufficient.
In addition, according to a source familiar with the situation, if the tanker had exploded as a result of the attack, external berthing facilities could also have been damaged. This would have left the CPC with only one berthing facility, significantly complicating Kazakhstan's oil exports.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan called on partner countries to condemn the attacks on tankers at the CPC marine terminal. Following these events, the loading of Kazakh oil at the CPC terminal was temporarily suspended. About 80% of Kazakhstan's exported oil is transported through the CPC pipeline.
