After a powerful storm with hail hit Pavlodar region on July 19, authorities in Ekibastuz plan to introduce a local natural emergency regime. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The draft resolution of the akim has been published on the open NPA portal. The document states that the emergency regime is necessary to eliminate the consequences of the hydrometeorological phenomenon that occurred on July 19. The decision was also based on an extraordinary meeting of the city commission for emergency prevention and response held on July 20.
If adopted, the resolution will come into force after its first official publication but will apply to events starting from July 19. The draft is currently undergoing public discussion, which will end on July 21.
Recall that on July 19, Pavlodar and districts of the region were hit by a severe storm. Hurricane winds with gusts up to 20 m/s were accompanied by thunderstorms and hail. Social media showed videos of the elements tearing off roofs, damaging buildings, cars, power lines, and other objects.
The Department of Emergency Situations of Pavlodar region could not clarify the number of torn roofs and other damage. However, the department reported that akimats of settlements affected by the hurricane have created commissions to assess damage and collect accurate data.
