In Kyrgyzstan, a court has extended the arrest of five defendants in a corruption case involving the State Committee for National Security (GKNB). Among them are former high-ranking security service officers who served under Kamchybek Tashiev, who headed the agency until February 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to 24.kg, on October 9 the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek extended until November 15 the arrest of Eldar Zhakypbekov, former head of the GKNB department for Bishkek, known by the nickname Edu; Berdibek Boronbaev, former head of the investigative department of the GKNB department for Chuy region; Tilek Abdykalykov, former head of the 6th Main Directorate of the GKNB; and Aibek Tashmatov, former director of the Republican Sports College.

Another defendant, former GKNB officer Sydyk Duishombiev, known by the nickname Pito, had his arrest extended until December 9. All five are involved in a criminal corruption case.

Eldar Zhakypbekov was detained on February 15, 2026, shortly after Kamchybek Tashiev's resignation. According to the investigation, Zhakypbekov created a corruption group of security service officers and civilians who used their official positions for personal enrichment.

During the investigation, other defendants were also detained. Following an internal review at the GKNB, six officers were dismissed and another six were removed from their positions. The case is being investigated by Kyrgyzstan's Military Prosecutor's Office.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that after Kamchybek Tashiev's departure, a series of detentions of security service officers began in Kyrgyzstan. In April, former GKNB deputy chairman Timur Shabdanbekov and six other law enforcement officers came under investigation.

In addition, the brother of former GKNB head Shairbek Tashiev was detained on suspicion of corruption. Later, former security service officer Nurbek Anarkulov, whom the media described as a media curator, was released from pretrial detention.
