The Ebola fever outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has affected a new territory — North Ubangi province, which borders the Central African Republic. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Reuters, authorities reported that two Ebola cases have been confirmed in North Ubangi.

Ituri remains the epicenter, but cases are spreading

Ituri province remains the epicenter of the outbreak, although the number of cases has recently increased in North Kivu province as well. Infections have also been confirmed in South Kivu, Tshopo, Haut-Uele, Bas-Uele and South Ubangi provinces.

A health official in North Ubangi told the agency that a series of suspicious deaths had recently occurred in a mining area near the border with Bas-Uele, prompting samples to be taken for analysis.

National toll

At present, the total number of cases in the country has exceeded 9,000, of which more than 4,000 have died.

Situation in Kenya

It was previously reported that Kenya had officially confirmed its second case of Ebola fever. The infection was detected in a 39-year-old man who had contact with a deceased Nairobi resident last week.

Recall that the first imported case in the country was identified after a Kenyan who fell ill in Congo flew to Nairobi, where a relative took him to hospital.

Currently, 108 contacts are in quarantine in Kenya. However, the whereabouts of another 15 citizens remain unknown.
