The Eurasian Economic Commission is closely monitoring the accessibility of the compulsory health insurance (CHI) system for workers from EAEU countries. This was stated by Shyngys Sarybaev, head of the labor resources department of the EEC's labor migration and social protection department. Currently, the CHI system operates in four member states of the union – Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
It provides access to emergency medical care as well as other medical services. "The Treaty on the EAEU stipulates that workers of member states and their family members have the right to compulsory health insurance on the same terms and in the same manner as citizens of the country where they work. In these countries, workers and their family members, in addition to emergency medical care, can access other medical services under the CHI," Sarybaev said.
He also noted that there are still issues to be resolved. In particular, in Russia, the CHI system is not available to non-working family members of temporarily staying workers. "We understand the importance of this issue. Currently, the commission, together with the parties, is actively working to resolve this problem to reliably protect the health of our citizens. We continue to create more favorable and equal conditions for work," the EEC emphasized.
