The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has decided to raise import customs duty rates for goods whose import volumes have increased while import prices have significantly decreased. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the commission, the rates will be raised to the level set by obligations within the World Trade Organization (WTO), and will apply, among other things, to light industry products, certain types of electronics, and valve fittings (pipeline fittings).
“This measure is aimed at protecting existing production capacities in the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, preserving jobs, as well as developing industrial cooperation and import substitution,” noted Andrey Slepnev, Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The decision of the EEC Council will enter into force 10 calendar days after its official publication and will remain in effect until the end of September 2027.
