The coordinated development of transport corridors between the EAEU and the CIS is a competitive advantage on the Eurasian continent. This was stated by Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the 46th meeting of the Coordinating Transport Meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States member states, he noted that cooperation with CIS structures is one of the main directions of the EAEU's international activities and outlined the key priorities for joint work in the transport sector.

"The opportunity for coordinated development and strengthening of the transport and logistics complex of the EAEU and the CIS is our competitive advantage on the Eurasian continent," he said.

The minister particularly emphasized the importance of coordinating the development of Eurasian transport corridors and international routes passing through the territory of the Commonwealth countries, modernizing checkpoints, and digitally transforming the industry.

According to him, the CIS covers a wide geographical scope of integration processes, while the EAEU deepens economic integration and forms the existing legal framework.

Combining the efforts of the two organizations will provide the basis for transforming transport corridors into a multimodal system where different modes of transport operate as a single mechanism and barriers to transportation are eliminated.

According to Kozhoshev, it is important to focus on the coordinated development of checkpoints.

The EEC minister noted that the modernization of checkpoints along international transport corridors will increase the freight and throughput capacity of the EAEU and CIS infrastructure. This is in the interests of both parties.

"We are ready to work together on the EAEU platform to develop transport corridors. The transport sector has always been one of the most in-demand areas of integration," the minister said.

Arzybek Kozhoshev proposed using existing opportunities to establish further fruitful cooperation in the main areas of transport development.
