The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China have agreed to accelerate customs information exchange. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between Sergei Shklyaev, Minister for Customs Cooperation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Sun Meijun, head of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. The parties agreed to expedite the coordination of necessary documents to launch information exchange and to put the system into operation soon.
According to Shklyaev, the parties plan to hold an offline meeting of experts for the first time in several years to speed up this work. Information exchange will enhance transparency in international trade and improve customs procedures.
The meeting also discussed the Unified Customs Transit System being introduced in the EAEU. The agreement was adopted in December 2024 and entered into force in June 2026. The system aims to simplify transit shipments and optimize customs procedures.
EEC representatives noted that this system will improve the efficiency of transit shipments across Eurasia. Additionally, the parties discussed the introduction of advanced technologies under the "Smart Customs" initiative.
