Manila hosted discussions on expanding economic ties between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the EEC press service reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
On September 21, Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Daniyar Imanaliev and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn met in the Philippine city of Manila.
Issues discussed
The meeting addressed upcoming cooperation plans between the EAEU and ASEAN. The parties focused on developing energy, food security, digitalization and transport and logistics links.
According to Daniyar Imanaliev, ASEAN is an important regional partner for the EAEU. Work is currently continuing to expand the scope of cooperation between the two integration associations.
Long-term plans
The long-term plans of both organizations are also aligned: the EAEU and ASEAN have planned their development strategies through 2045. These goals are set out in the EAEU's "Eurasian Economic Path" declaration and ASEAN's "ASEAN Vision 2045" documents.
In addition, the EEC leadership invited ASEAN representatives to take part in the Eurasian Economic Forum, which will be held in Bishkek in May 2027.
EAEU–ASEAN Days
Daniyar Imanaliev also expressed readiness to hold "EAEU–ASEAN Days" at the EEC headquarters. This event is aimed at developing dialogue not only among experts but also between the business communities of both sides, EEC specialists say.
Thus, the dialogue between the EAEU and ASEAN is not limited to meetings at the political level but is moving toward covering concrete economic areas — from energy to digital technologies and logistics.
