Countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have made significant progress in the field of renewable energy sources and energy saving. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), who participated in the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, provided foreign colleagues with comprehensive information about projects being implemented in the energy sector in the EAEU countries.
He also outlined how the five EAEU states are responding to challenges arising from changes in business models, economic ties, and logistics of energy resource supply.
"In such a situation, the importance of diversifying the energy balance is especially increasing for the EAEU. It is necessary to find an economically efficient ratio of traditional and renewable energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and actively introduce nuclear energy, hydropower, and renewable energy sources into the energy system," said Arzybek Kozhoshev.
In his opinion, special attention should be paid to developing programs for energy saving and energy efficiency improvement, reducing the energy intensity of industry, introducing energy-saving technologies in various sectors, and developing energy storage systems.
"The EAEU has all the conditions and opportunities for successful development in these areas. In recent years, we have made significant progress in renewable energy and energy saving," the EEC minister noted.
Arzybek Kozhoshev also emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing the advantages of Eurasian economic integration. According to him, this includes conducting a coordinated energy policy and forming common markets for energy resources.
