Smith is entering his 14th NFL season, having been drafted by the Jets in the second round in 2013. In Seattle from 2022 to 2024, he threw for over 3,500 yards in three straight seasons. Last year with Las Vegas, he passed for 3,025 yards but led the league with 17 interceptions.
The Jets acquired Smith in the offseason to bolster an offense that struggled during a 3-14 season. The team ranked near the bottom in several offensive categories, and their 8 yards per completion was the lowest in the NFL.
Reich has praised Smith's "elite" football mind and believes his physical condition will benefit the team.
