Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary and IMAX have presented the final trailer and a new poster for director Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three. In the concluding part of the trilogy, Paul Atreides will face conspiracies against his power, and his relationship with Chani will be put at risk. Plot

The film's events unfold 17 years after the second part. Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme, A Complete Unknown), has become emperor and must now deal with the consequences of his decisions. A conspiracy is being prepared against him, and new enemies threaten his rule.

Paul is married to Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer), but continues to love Chani, played by Zendaya (Euphoria, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey). At the same time, the hero must deal not only with political intrigues but also with his own past.

New characters and cast

A new threat appears in the film — Scytale, played by Robert Pattinson (Twilight, The Batman). His character is connected to the Bene Tleilax — a secret group of genetic engineers who can alter living organisms.

Director Villeneuve previously said that the third part would be more like a thriller. Audiences can also expect more action than in the previous films.

Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) and Javier Bardem (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Skyfall, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) will also return to their roles. Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit, Split) will again appear as Alia Atreides, Paul's sister.

Jason Momoa (Aquaman) will also return to the Dune universe but will play a different version of his former character Duncan Idaho. In the third part, his hero will appear as Hayt.

Script and source material

Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Brian K. Vaughan. The film is based on Frank Herbert's novel Dune Messiah, published in 1969.

The third Dune will be the last film for Villeneuve and Chalamet in this cinematic universe. This refers specifically to their work on the story within the current trilogy.

Filming details

A special focus was placed on filming for large screens. The main part of the film was shot on 65mm film, and some scenes were shot on IMAX 70mm film. According to IMAX, more than an hour of the picture will be shown in an expanded image format.

One of the main filming locations was again the Liwa Desert in Abu Dhabi. It portrays Arrakis — the desert planet around which the events of Dune unfold. Previous parts of the franchise were also filmed there.

Box office showdown

Incidentally, the third Dune will be released on the same day as Avengers: Doomsday in the US. Both films are slated for December 18, 2026, so audiences are in for a major clash between two popular franchises at the box office.
