Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova has announced that she has consented to posthumous organ donation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
On social media, the minister also explained why she decided to announce this decision publicly.
"I consider it important to say this openly. Not because I was Minister of Health, but because each of us may one day face the need to make such a decision for ourselves or a loved one. Posthumous donation is one way to help people who have a chance to live, even after death," Alnazarova wrote.
In this regard, the minister also provided specific statistics. Today, about 184,000 people in Kazakhstan have registered their consent to posthumous donation through eGov. The number of those waiting for a donor has approached 5,000 people.
Most of them need a kidney. Kidney transplantation – 4,311 people; heart transplantation – 212 people; liver transplantation – 314 people; lung transplantation – 30 people.
It is worth noting that earlier, former Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva said she would consent to posthumous donation.
