World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the situation with Ebola fever demonstrates encouraging signs of improvement. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
"We are starting to see encouraging signs that we are winning [in the fight against the Ebola epidemic]," Africanews TV channel quoted him as saying. "Testing of treatment methods and prevention [of reinfection] for those who have already recovered is gaining momentum. Vaccine trials should begin in the coming weeks. But note: the epidemic continues to spread and kill."
According to the latest data, the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths from Ebola fever in the country exceeded 3.5 thousand. The total number of fatalities reached 3,510, and the number of Ebola cases — 7,258. The mortality rate is 48.4%.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that the UN reported progress in the fight against the Ebola epidemic in the DRC.
