Burnley head coach Neeky Hayen, who manages Kazakhstan forward Dastan Satpayev, has been dismissed. The decision was made after a 1:4 defeat to Lincoln City in the 12th round of the Championship, which left the team in the relegation zone. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Burnley officially announced Hayen's dismissal on the evening of 24 October. The club explained the decision by the team's poor start to the new season. The Belgian specialist leaves the post just over three months after his appointment: he took charge of the team on 10 July and signed a three-year contract.
In Hayen's last match, Satpayev appeared in Burnley's starting lineup for the first time since returning from injury. The Kazakh spent about an hour on the pitch and was replaced by Oliver Sonne.
Burnley opened the scoring in the 39th minute through Andreas Hountondji, but Ben House equalised before half-time. In the second half, the hosts scored three more: Mikkel Ladefoged netted a brace, and Dom Jefferies added another goal. The final score was 4:1 in favour of Lincoln.
After 12 rounds, Burnley sits 22nd in the Championship. The team has collected eight points: one win, five draws and six defeats with a goal difference of 17:25.
Burnley is three points away from the safety of 21st place, occupied by Watford. Derby County is 23rd with seven points, and Preston are bottom with five. Middlesbrough lead with 25 points after 12 matches.
Burnley's next match will be at home against Portsmouth on 31 October. The club did not announce who would manage the team after Hayen's dismissal at the time of the announcement.
