The Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued a statement regarding an investigation launched after reports of a potential leak of personal data from the Daryn.online platform. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The investigation found no evidence of a leak of 4.2 million records. The actual volume of personal data contained in the information system of Daryn.online LLP exceeds 90,000 records, which rules out the possibility of data compromise in the volume mentioned in the publications.
"At the same time, violations of legal requirements in the field of personal data protection were identified, related to improper implementation of mandatory protection measures," the ministry's statement said.
The ministry noted that an administrative fine has been imposed on the company under Article 79 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The ministry reminded that it pays special attention to the protection of citizens' personal data and provides for strict liability for violations of legislation in this area.
This incident has heightened concerns about data security on digital platforms. Experts say such cases highlight the need for companies to strengthen personal data protection measures.
In Kazakhstan, legislation on personal data protection has been significantly improved in recent years. In 2023, amendments to the Law "On Personal Data and Their Protection" were introduced, tightening requirements for data processing.
However, according to experts, having a legislative framework is not enough; companies must actually implement data protection measures in practice.
