Kazakhstan's top doubles player Anna Danilina, paired with Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic, unexpectedly lost to the Estonian-Mexican duo of Ingrid Neel and Giuliana Olmos in the third round of Wimbledon 2026 – 7:5, 4:6, 4:6. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Danilina, who had earlier partnered with American James Tracy in mixed doubles and exited the previous day, has now also been eliminated from the women's doubles.
In the first set, the opponents held serve until 5:5, after which the three-time Grand Slam runners-up secured a break and confirmed it – 7:5.
Between sets, Krunic required the assistance of a physiotherapist, who performed an express massage on her lower back on the court. After that, Krunic nearly lost her serve but, together with her partner, saved two break points.
The outcome of the second set was decided in the seventh game. Danilina and Krunic lost their serve to love. They then failed to convert several opportunities for a return break – 4:6.
In the third set, the Kazakh-Serbian pair held their serves confidently and were close to making a decisive break. However, at 4:4, Krunic's serve faltered. Neel and Olmos took the lead and did not relinquish it. 5:7, 6:4, 6:4 in 2 hours 46 minutes. Despite losing the ace count 2:7, the Estonian and Mexican won on total points – 111:108.
Today, in the junior tournament, Damir Zhalgasbay will play a doubles match. The young Kazakh won his first-round singles match the previous day. His momentum was supported by Zangar Nurlanuly, who also advanced to the second round.
The only Kazakh representative in the adult singles draw, Alexander Bublik, will face American Taylor Fritz this evening for a place in the quarterfinals. The head-to-head record between the Kazakh and Elena Rybakina's partner in the victorious 2026 Eisenhower Cup is 4:4. However, both matches on grass (Eastbourne 2022 and Stuttgart 2026) were won by the American.
Following world No. 2 Rybakina and No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland, Wimbledon 2026 was also left by world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. In the fourth round, the Belarusian lost to Naomi Osaka (14) of Japan – 2:6, 6:7 (2:7).
The Wimbledon Championships 2026 are taking place in London from June 29 to July 12. It is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season and the only one on grass.
The prize fund is £64.2 million. Champions and finalists in singles will receive £3.6 million and £1.8 million, respectively.
The reigning Wimbledon champions are Italy's Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Sinner defeated Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki (151) 6:3, 7:6 (7:0), 6:3 to reach the quarterfinals. Swiatek was eliminated in the third round.
