Qatar avoided defeat in their opening Group B match at the 2026 World Cup, drawing 1-1 with Switzerland. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The match took place on June 14 at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco. Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute: Breel Embolo converted a penalty awarded after Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada fouled Remo Freuler.

After the goal, Murat Yakin's team held the advantage for a long time and were close to victory, but failed to score a second. Qatar equalized in stoppage time: in the 90+5th minute, Boualem Khoukhi scored to earn his team their first point of the tournament.

After two matches in Group B, all four teams have one point each. Earlier, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina also drew 1-1.

In the next round, Qatar will face Canada, while Switzerland will play Bosnia and Herzegovina.
