Chinese automaker Chery continues to strengthen its position in Europe. Less than a year after entering the UK market, the brand has captured about 2% of sales, and in July it sold more cars than Honda and Mazda combined. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Carscoops.
In July, the company registered 3,200 new cars in the UK. For comparison, Honda sold 1,400 units, while Mazda sold about 1,600. Thus, the Chinese brand surpassed their combined result of 2,900 vehicles.
Since September 2025, Chery has registered nearly 21,200 cars in the country. This is more than Citroen, which has been present in the British market for over a hundred years and has sold 18,300 cars since the beginning of the year.
The Chery group also includes the Omoda and Jaecoo brands. In July, they registered 3,400 and 5,500 cars respectively. In total, the three brands sold 12,100 vehicles.
For comparison, Toyota's result was 6,700 cars, while Volkswagen sold 14,000. Thus, the Chinese group's sales are already almost double Toyota's and approaching Volkswagen's.
Jaecoo deserves special attention. The Jaecoo 7 crossover previously became the first Chinese car to top the monthly sales ranking in the UK.
The rapid growth of Chery shows how quickly Chinese automakers are strengthening in the European market. Just a year ago, the brand was virtually unknown to British buyers, and now it competes with companies that have been operating in the country for decades.
Earlier, Kursiv Avto reported that former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson criticized the Jaecoo 7 but praised the Chinese auto industry.
