Chery is preparing to expand its presence in the British market. The Chinese brand wants to launch four new or updated SUVs in 2027, including an electric vehicle, and is also opening its own R&D centre in the UK. The goal is ambitious – to push aside mass-market brands like Volkswagen, Autocar writes. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Tiggo X family — the main novelty
One of the main new products will be the Tiggo X family. It will likely include the five-metre, seven-seat SUV with a boxy body and a plug-in hybrid powertrain that was presented at the Beijing motor show.
New R&D centre
At the same time, Chery intends to change more than just its model line-up. The new R&D centre at the UTAC Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire will adapt cars for British roads. Engineers will work on steering, chassis and driver assistance system settings, taking into account feedback from local customers and journalists.
Aiming for a 'German feel'
The head of Chery in the UK, Farrell Hsu, said the company wants to achieve a "German feel" from its cars behind the wheel. According to him, British specialists will pass on feedback to Chinese engineers that will help improve the vehicles.
Sales figures
In its first year of operation, Chery sold around 29,000 cars in the UK and has already exceeded its plan for 2026. At the same time, three-quarters of the brand's sales come from Super Hybrid plug-in hybrids.
PHEV for every model
Going forward, Chery wants to offer a PHEV version for each of its models. The buyer will effectively be able to choose the battery size and range – similar to choosing the memory capacity on a smartphone.
Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that four Chinese crossovers entered the top 10 sales in the UK.
