After a month-long break, football matches in the UEFA Champions League resumed in Europe. On the first matchday of the second round, many unexpected results were recorded. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Thanks to a hat-trick by Nikola Tresoldi, Club Brugge defeated Inter in Milan 4-3. The 22-year-old German forward won the scoring duel against 2022 world champion Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine's brace was not enough for the Italians even to draw. The Belgian club, which lost at home to Aston Villa at the start of the Champions League, shocked the legendary San Siro.
Viking from Stavanger, following the Norwegian folk tradition established by Bodo/Glimt, caused a headache for Bayern Munich on their home field. The Munich side, through efforts of Englishman Harry Kane and Colombian Luis Diaz, turned 0-2 into 3-2. However, a foolish sending-off of Frenchman Michael Olise, who picked up two yellow cards in two minutes, left the visitors a man down. At the end of the match, Scandinavian defender Herman Heugen brought them a draw – 3-3.
In the same minute as Olise (74th), French defender of Manchester United Leny Yoro left the field for a last-man foul. Spanish Atletico Madrid was leading 1-0 at that moment. In the opening of the match in Madrid, Pablo Barrios stood out. In the 11v10 format, Nigerian Ademola Lookman finally tamed the Red Devils – 2-0.
Barcelona responded to the goal by Russian midfielder of Turkish Galatasaray Aleksey Batrakov in Istanbul with a collective poker. From the 43rd to the 65th minute, an international lineup of Portuguese Joao Cancelo, Spaniard Fermin Lopez, Englishman Anthony Gordon and German Karim Adeyemi stood out.
Another Spanish club followed Barca's path. Villarreal, giving a head start to Italian Napoli, presented the guests with three arguments in the form of goals by Georgian Georges Mikautadze, Uruguayan Santiago Mourino and Canadian Tani Oluwaseyi.
Arsenal at the Emirates resolved the Lille question in seven minutes. Dutchman Jurrien Timber with Englishmen Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka from the 64th to the 71st minute turned faceless zeros into eloquent figures 3-0.
