On August 1, the first regular cargo flight of Cathay Pacific Cargo, one of the world's largest cargo airlines and the national airline of Hong Kong, was launched at Astana International Airport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The airline has started operating five regular cargo flights per week through Astana International Airport.
According to Bauyrzhan Umiraliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee, the arrival of one of the world's leading cargo airlines to the Kazakh market indicates the country's growing role as a reliable transport and logistics hub connecting Asia and Europe.
"The launch of regular flights by Cathay Pacific Cargo is the result of systematic and extensive work by Astana International Airport to attract one of the world's leading cargo airlines. Work on this project has been carried out for two years, with numerous negotiations, working meetings and consultations with airline representatives. As a result of consistent cooperation between the parties, an agreement was reached to launch a regular transit program through the capital's airport," the airport's statement said.
Cathay Pacific Cargo is the cargo division of Hong Kong's national airline Cathay Pacific and one of the world's largest cargo airlines. The company transports more than 1.5 million tons of cargo annually.
