The police department of Akmola region has launched an investigation into the mistreatment of animals in the Burabay resort area. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The reason was a social media post about the poor condition of ponies and camels used for tourist rides.

A Threads user under the nickname zhansezimmnn published a post about the condition of animals in Borovoye. She drew attention to a pony with "drooping eyes" and a camel that was forced to move despite refusing to walk.

"Don't we have a service in Kazakhstan that deals with animal protection? Judging by what I saw, they are clearly being exploited," she wrote.

Police Launched Investigation

The police department of Akmola region responded to the post and announced the start of an investigation.

"An investigation has been appointed regarding the published information about the mistreatment of animals in the Burabay resort area, during which the circumstances of the incident, as well as persons responsible for the maintenance and exploitation of animals, will be established," the department's statement said.

The police added that if violations of legislation are found, a legal assessment will be given to the actions of responsible persons.

22 Cases Identified Since Beginning of Year

The police department clarified that since the beginning of the year, they have already identified 22 cases of animal cruelty. In all cases, the perpetrators were brought to administrative responsibility.

This incident has once again drawn public attention to the issue of animal protection in Kazakhstan. Despite existing legislation, its enforcement is often criticized due to insufficient control.

Burabay is a popular resort area where thousands of tourists vacation annually, using attractions involving animals. However, complaints about the condition of animals have been made before.
