The State Academic Dance Theater of the Republic of Kazakhstan now officially bears the name of its founder, choreographer Bulat Ayukhanov. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The decision was made on the instructions of the president. The Ministry of Culture announced the naming.
Bulat Ayukhanov founded the ensemble "Young Ballet of Alma-Ata" in 1967. It was the first chamber ballet theater in Kazakhstan. Later, the ensemble toured the Soviet republics and also performed in Europe and Scandinavia.
According to the ministry, the ensemble continues to develop the traditions laid down by the master.
"Bulat Ayukhanov's productions have entered the golden fund of national choreographic art, and the school he created has trained several generations of artists," the ministry said.
In 2027, the theater ensemble in Almaty will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Bulat Ayukhanov was born on September 13, 1938 in Semey. He was a People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR, choreographer and teacher. He died on December 18, 2022 in Almaty.
