First-day setbacks
On the first day of the exhibition tournament, the Kazakh player, representing Team World, lost to Spain's Rafael Jodar – 2:6, 3:6. Then, paired with American Taylor Fritz, he capitulated to the duo of Carlos Alcaraz (Spain)/Jakub Mensik (Czechia) – 4:6, 4:6.
After the first day of the Europe vs. the rest of the world match, the Old World players were ahead – 3:1. They also maintained their lead after the second day.
About the tournament
The Laver Cup, named after the famous Australian tennis player Rod Laver (now 88), is being held for the ninth time. It features six European tennis players and the same number of athletes representing the rest of the world. Three are selected automatically based on the ATP ranking, and three more are invited by the captain.
Over three days, 12 matches are played (9 singles and 3 doubles). For a win in each match on the first day, the team receives 1 point. Each victory in the matches on the second day is worth 2 points. On the third day, the value of a victory increases to three points. The team that first reaches 13 points wins.
All matches are played in three sets, with the third in a tie-break format up to 10 points.
Team Europe has five victories so far, while Team World has won three times.
