The new UN Secretary-General could give impetus to resolving the situation in Ukraine, said candidate for the post Maria Fernanda Espinosa. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"I really think that new leadership in this body can help find common ground for peaceful resolution of conflicts, including Ukraine, and give new impetus," she said at the UN.

Among the candidates for the post of UN Secretary-General are former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet, Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, President of UNCTAD Rebeca Grynspan, former President of Senegal Macky Sall, and former Foreign Minister of Ecuador Maria Fernanda Espinosa.
