The United Nations has requested $49.6 million to provide emergency assistance to Nepal, which has been hit by massive and devastating flooding. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The four-month emergency response plan was developed jointly with the government of Nepal. Its main goal is to help people in remote high-altitude areas before winter arrives. The funds will be allocated to:
- 01food supplies;
- 02shelter;
- 03clean water and sanitation;
- 04health services;
- 05child protection and education support.
Meanwhile, the first plane from UNICEF and the EU has already arrived in Kathmandu carrying 84 tonnes of humanitarian cargo (medicines, tents, winter clothing). Nepalese authorities note that the total cost of restoring the country's infrastructure will amount to billions of dollars.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that on August 26, 2026, a glacier collapse occurred on the border of Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region, triggering a massive flood in the Himalayas.
The death toll, according to the latest data, has reached 1,294 people, with thousands missing. More than 84,000 residents have been affected. Roads, bridges, power lines, and water supply systems have been destroyed.
