At the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, heads of state and government will discuss the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East and around Iran. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
General debate to run from September 22 to 26
The general debate will run from September 22 to 26 and conclude on September 28. About 130 heads of state and government will gather in New York. On the first day, US President Donald Trump will speak from the General Assembly podium.
During the week, speeches are planned by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukraine issue in focus
One of the main topics of meetings within the General Assembly is the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. According to RIA Novosti, a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is being worked out. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said he had agreed to a meeting with Donald Trump in New York.
US media also reported that such a meeting is being planned. These talks will take place as part of efforts to resume a trilateral dialogue between Russia, the US and Ukraine.
In early September, Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv. After the talks, Kushner said Washington intends to return to the trilateral format. The Kremlin also said there is hope for resuming such negotiations.
Iran issue also on the agenda
Another important topic of the week is the situation around Iran and the further US policy in the Middle East. As part of the General Assembly, Trump plans to hold talks with leaders of countries belonging to the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. The situation around Iran is expected to be one of the main topics of the meeting.
