A teenager has been left with life-threatening injuries after being allegedly stabbed by another student at a Brisbane high school. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.

The alleged altercation took place at the Islamic College of Brisbane in Karawatha, south of Brisbane, at about 11.45am on Tuesday.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment for what Queensland police described as “life-threatening injuries”.

A spokesperson for the Princess Alexandra hospital said on Tuesday afternoon the boy was in a stable condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday afternoon and said he was assisting officers with inquiries. No charges have been laid.

The boys are believed to be known to each other, a police spokesperson said.

“Officers are currently conducting patrols of the nearby area and appealing to anyone who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to contact police,” the spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for the Islamic College of Brisbane said the school went into a short lockdown after calling emergency services to report the incident.

“After the situation was contained, students and staff were sent home,” the spokesperson said. “The school is working with authorities, and counselling and support services are available for all school community members should they require it.

“The college will continue to communicate any developments to students and their families, who are urged to avoid any premature and irresponsible speculation around the incident.”

It is the second school stabbing in Queensland this week. In the separate incident, police charged a 15-year-old boy from Kanimbla, in far north Queensland, after allegedly stabbing another boy at a Cairns school on Monday.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail on Monday and was due to appear in the Cairns children’s court on Tuesday.
