In the Burlinsky district of the West Kazakhstan region, teenagers aged 16-17 were granted a 50% discount on public transport fares. After prosecutors intervened, the rights of 1,155 minors were restored, the regional prosecutor's office said. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
How the violation was found
The violation was identified during an analysis of a district maslikhat decision on discounted travel for certain categories of passengers on intra-city public transport, excluding taxis. The document did not provide a discount for minors aged 16-17, so students in that age group paid the full fare.
Changes under the prosecutor's act
Following the prosecutor's act, amendments were made to the maslikhat decision. Now the fare for a minor passenger in Aksai is 50 tenge.
On other routes in the district, a discounted tariff was also introduced: the fare for minors was reduced by 50%.
Work continues
The prosecutor's office said it continues work to protect the rights and legitimate interests of minors and to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Earlier in Astana
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Astana approved an expansion of the right to free travel for children studying full-time, including students of private schools. The changes also provided for a year-round benefit for children from low-income families, including during holidays.
