Blogger Nursultan Zhaksygen, who defamed his ex-wife, has been sentenced by a court. The criminal case was heard in the Karasai District Court. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The charge against the blogger was Article 274, Part 2, Clause 3) of the Criminal Code — "Dissemination of knowingly false information using mass media, telecommunications networks and online platforms."
The blogger divorced his wife, with whom he has two children together, in April 2024. However, his ex-wife complained that her blogger husband had been defaming her and spreading false information.
"The fact of dissemination of knowingly false information that caused significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests of the victim has been proven. The court found Zh. guilty of the criminal offense provided for by Article 274, Part 2, Clause 3) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of 2 years 3 months," the Almaty Region Court said.
Nursultan Zhaksygen will serve his sentence in medium-security institutions of the penal enforcement system.
"In addition, on the basis of Part Three of Article 50 of the Criminal Code, the convicted person was deprived of the right to engage in journalistic, blogging and other public information activities related to the preparation, posting and dissemination of information for the general public in mass media, online platforms, social networks and other telecommunications networks for a period of 5 years," the court said.
The court recovered 5,000,000 tenge from the convicted person in favor of the victim for moral damages.
The verdict has not entered into legal force.
