The film opens with dashcam footage from a police car showing the 2008 plane crash in South Carolina. Barker survived, but four others did not. This event became one of the most significant in his life.
Initially, the film was planned as a mirror of his memoir "Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums" published in 2015. However, after a producer suggested ending the film with an image of Barker, then still unable to fly due to post-traumatic stress disorder, walking toward a plane, the film took on a different meaning.
Barker did not want to end the film on that note. Instead, he boards a plane at the end, but the final images are a slideshow of family photos, including his wife Kourtney Kardashian and kids.
"I almost died," he says. He adds that sharing his life "could be helpful."
Barker's resume is long, and a two-and-a-half-hour documentary can only cover so much of it. The film hits most of the big notes, starting with his rebellious childhood.
