More than 1,200 illegal weapons have been confiscated since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
In five months of this year, during the operational preventive measures "Weapon" and "Legal Order," more than 1,200 weapons in criminal circulation were confiscated. Among them: 18 assault rifles; two grenade launchers; over 320 pistols; over 100 rifled weapons; 700 smoothbore guns; and 120 weapons stolen during the January events.
In May, a number of unregistered weapons were confiscated in Almaty city and Almaty region. Among them, weapons stolen from gun shops in the southern metropolis during the January events were identified.
Additionally, from April 20 until the end of the year, a campaign is underway to purchase illegally stored firearms, ammunition, and explosives from the population. To date, citizens have voluntarily handed over about 750 various weapons and nearly 4,000 rounds of ammunition.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds that citizens who voluntarily surrender illegally stored weapons are exempt from criminal and administrative liability.
