Many motorists keep a canister of gasoline in the garage 'just in case.' Such a reserve can help in an unforeseen situation, but over time the fuel loses its properties and can damage the engine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the expert, GOST allows storing gasoline in a sealed special container for up to one year from the date of production. But such a period is possible only under certain conditions:
- 01In domestic conditions, it is difficult to achieve this. If the canister is in an ordinary garage, it is advisable to use the gasoline within 3–6 months. Then the fuel gradually loses some of its light components, its characteristics deteriorate, and the risk of carbon deposits increases during combustion.
The age of the car also matters. Ponomarev notes that old atmospheric engines with distributed injection usually tolerate gasoline stored for several months. But modern engines with turbocharging and direct injection are much more demanding on fuel quality.
Using old gasoline can lead to:
- 01The expert recommends not storing large reserves of fuel at home. If the canister has been standing for about a year, it is undesirable to use such gasoline in a modern car in its pure form. If necessary, it is better to mix it with fresh fuel.
If there are doubts about the quality of gasoline, it is safer to refuse to use it. According to Ponomarev, an attempt to save money can result in repair of the fuel system, cleaning of injectors, or elimination of the consequences of detonation.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Kazakhstan intends to temporarily abolish duties on gasoline imports to avoid shortages. Also, KazMunayGas reported that during the repair of the Atyrau refinery, fuel reserves should last at least 34 days. And here you can find out why economists warn of a possible increase in gasoline prices.
