King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

They were shown a particle accelerator — a cyclotron made in Belgium — designed to produce radioisotopes needed for medical diagnostics, including cancer detection.

"The guests got acquainted with the institute's research and production infrastructure and toured the new Cyclone-18/9 cyclotron complex and the WWR-K research reactor," the statement said.

The agency highlighted the delivery of the Cyclone-30 cyclotron by the Belgian company IBA in 2014 as an important result of the partnership.
