Belgium and Iran played out a goalless draw in the second round of Group G at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood ended 0-0. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Both teams came into the match after draws in their opening games. Belgium had drawn 1-1 with Egypt, while Iran shared points with New Zealand in a 2-2 draw. Therefore, a win in this head-to-head could significantly improve either team's position in the group.

Belgium started more actively and attacked frequently through the flanks. In the early minutes, Romelu Lukaku received a yellow card for a collision with Alireza Beiranvand, who required medical attention afterwards. Later, the Iranian goalkeeper made several saves, including shots from Kevin De Bruyne and Maxim De Cuyper.

Iran also had a big chance in the first half. In the 25th minute, Ehsan Hajsafi cleverly played a free kick, Mehdi Taremi received the ball in the box and shot under the crossbar. However, after VAR intervention, the goal was disallowed due to offside against the striker.

After the break, Belgium continued to dominate possession but could not convert pressure into a goal. In the 66th minute, the situation worsened for Rudi Garcia's team: Nathan Ngoy received a red card for a foul on Taremi, leaving Belgium with ten men.

In the closing stages, Iran tried to exploit the numerical advantage but failed to score a winning goal.

After two rounds, both Belgium and Iran have two points each. In the final round, Belgium will play against New Zealand, while Iran will face Egypt.

In the other Group G match, New Zealand will play Egypt. Also, a match in Group H will take place: Uruguay vs. Cape Verde.

Earlier, Spain thrashed Saudi Arabia 4-0. Mikel Oyarzabal scored a brace, while Lamine Yamal scored his first goal at a World Cup.
