Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov issued a stern warning to the governor of Almaty region, Marat Sultangaziyev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
At a government meeting, the progress of the national project on modernizing the energy and utility sectors was reviewed. Regions that delayed financing procedures were named, including Almaty region.
According to the Prime Minister, a number of contracts under the national project have not yet been concluded in the region. Governor Sultangaziyev reported that 10 projects worth a total of 62.9 billion tenge are planned for implementation. The majority will be carried out by Alatau Zharyk Company JSC, part of Samruk-Kazyna.
Sultangaziyev said: "According to them, since July 17, AZhK has been conducting competitive procedures. Results are planned to be announced on September 25. Four projects are being implemented by local executive bodies. Contracts with contractors have been signed, meaning 50 percent of the plan has been fulfilled. Modernization of heating networks will be completed by the end of November."
For two projects in the wastewater sector, the results of competitive procedures were canceled upon the recommendation of the prosecutor's office. Responsible persons were subsequently brought to disciplinary responsibility. The results of re-announced tenders are planned to be announced at the end of August, after which work will begin.
After hearing this, the Prime Minister admonished the governor: "If we listen to you, everyone except you is to blame. Speed up," Bektenov said. The governor promised to accelerate the work and noted that 50 percent of the plan had been completed. However, the Prime Minister interrupted him: "Sit down."
