Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting on the current hydrological situation and heard information on water levels. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
As reported at the meeting, in all regions with a high risk of floods, the grouping of forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, including aviation, was strengthened in advance. Duty of rescue units, engineering and emergency rescue equipment was organized.
According to Kazhydromet, heavy precipitation is expected across the entire country in the coming days. Heavy rains are forecast in Almaty, Zhambyl and Zhetysu regions.
In this regard, Olzhas Bektenov gave a number of instructions to akimats: take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of people and infrastructure of settlements; ensure the readiness of forces and means of local executive bodies, including preparing evacuation points, necessary transport and updating response plans for cases of evacuation of the population; akimats of mudflow-prone regions keep the condition of moraine lakes under special control, including ensuring their timely discharge, as well as check the readiness of mudflow protection structures.
"Akimats of Almaty, Mangystau regions and the city of Almaty should keep the current situation under special control. Take prompt measures to eliminate the consequences of emergencies," said Olzhas Bektenov.
In addition, the responsible ministries were instructed to ensure daily monitoring at hydrological stations and regular monitoring of weather forecasts, organize continuous exchange of information on water flow in transboundary rivers and possible threats.
