19-year-old Selina, who suffered severe injuries after a tree fell on her in Almaty's Baum Grove, has died in hospital after doctors fought for her life for two weeks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Her sister Yasmin Abitova wrote on social media: "Our girl's heart couldn't take it. She left us..."
The girl was admitted to City Clinical Hospital No. 4 on June 27 in extremely critical condition. She remained in the intensive care unit under round-the-clock medical supervision.
"Despite all medical measures, today, on the 14th day after hospitalization, the patient suffered cardiac arrest. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful," the Almaty Public Health Department stated.
The tragedy occurred on June 27 in Baum Grove in Almaty. During a walk, a tree fell on 19-year-old Selina. She sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull, a broken hip, and an open leg fracture, after which she fell into a coma and was placed on a ventilator.
Relatives claimed the fallen tree was dry and rotten, and stated that other hazardous trees remain in the grove, posing a danger to visitors.
Police have opened a criminal case. The police department reported that a range of investigative measures are being carried out and necessary forensic examinations have been ordered.
