In West Kazakhstan region, a man who used a knife in a fight over a social media "like" received a suspended sentence. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the regional court, the incident occurred on 10 May 2026 at around 02:00. The defendant, intending to cause harm to the victim's health, started a quarrel because the victim had "liked" photos posted on an "Instagram" page belonging to his legal spouse.
After that, the defendant took a knife out of his pocket with his right hand and stabbed the victim twice in the groin area and once in the shoulder blade area. He then fled the scene. As a result, the victim suffered serious harm to health.
In particular, a penetrating knife wound was identified in the abdominal cavity near the navel of the anterior abdominal wall, with damage to internal organs.
The defendant fully admitted his guilt, repented of his actions and asked the victim for forgiveness. He also said he would not repeat such actions and asked not to be deprived of liberty.
The court found the defendant guilty of the criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment. However, the imposed sentence was deemed suspended, and the convicted person was placed under probation supervision for 3 years. The court verdict has entered into legal force.
