French officials have said that forty people have drowned in heatwave-related deaths since 18 June, as temperatures hit record levels in several major cities and the heatwave reached a peak in several European countries. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing BBC News.

Measures have been put in place across western Europe in order to help people manage the heat. The BBC's Pierre-Antoine Denis reports from Nice where a very high heat alert is in place, with temperatures peaking between 30C and 35C (86F and 95F).
