Kazakhstan's Barys hockey club suffered a 1:4 defeat to Ak Bars in Kazan, extending a losing streak that began with home games against Neftekhimik and SKA. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The superstition that if Barys opens the scoring, they invariably win the match did not hold true today at the Tatneft Arena. The goal by Vsevolod Logvin, scored in the middle of the first period, was completely nullified 2.5 minutes after the break.
From the 22nd to the 25th minute, Ak Bars struck Andrei Shutov's goal three times. Upset, he yielded his place in the net to Hunter Shepard. The American ultimately remained dry. The hosts scored another goal into the visitors' empty net at the end of the match. Shepard at that moment was watching the game from the bench.
🏒 AK BARS (Kazan, Russia) – BARYS (Astana, Kazakhstan) 4:1 (0:1, 3:0, 1:0)

Having lost 1:4, Mikhail Kravets' charges remained fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. However, a whole group of teams is actively pressing the Kazakhstanis from below.
As last season showed, it is better not to abuse losing streaks in the KHL. If the team continues in the same vein, Barys' brisk start will quickly be forgotten.
The KHL regular championship, which started on September 5, will last until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. Based on the regular season results, 8 teams from each conference earn the right to participate in the playoffs.
In the next foreign tour, Barys has two matches left to play. In Nizhnekamsk and Moscow.
