Hockey club Barys won its second consecutive away match beyond regulation time. After a 5:4 overtime victory in Nizhnekamsk, the Kazakhstan side beat Spartak Moscow 4:3 in a shootout. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Spartak had lost five straight matches before facing Barys. The Muscovites were just a minute and a half away from ending their losing streak. However, the Astana side, trailing 2:3, pulled Andrei Shutov for a sixth skater, and Tai Thompson equalized on the penultimate minute of the third period – 3:3.

Interestingly, Mikhail Kravets' charges saved the match twice in a row while playing with an empty net. And for the second time, the saving goal was scored from a Logan Day assist. Piercing the opponent's goalkeeper with a powerful long-range shot. Garrett Pilon scored that way against Neftekhimik, Thompson against Spartak.
Both the Muscovites and the Astana side participated in a post-match penalty shootout for the first time in KHL 2026/27. Seven attempts were unsuccessful, and the eighth shootout was converted by the aforementioned Pilon.
With the win, Barys moved up to fourth place in the East, while Spartak sits sixth in the West.
The KHL regular season, which started on September 5, will last until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. Based on the regular season results, 8 teams from each conference earn the right to participate in the playoffs.
After a five-day break, Barys will play three matches in Astana. After that, it will play nine consecutive away matches.
