Kazakhstan's Barys lost 1:3 to Amur in Astana in their third match of the Kontinental Hockey League 2026/27. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Pre-season meeting

Our hockey players recently faced Amur. In the pre-season tournament for the Cup of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Astana side lost 1:5. The trophy of the Ufa tournament ultimately went to the Khabarovsk team. The Kazakhs finished last.

Roles reversed at the start of the KHL

At the start of the KHL, the teams swapped roles. Barys won two home matches, scoring 15 goals against Sibir and Salavat Yulaev. Amur scored only three times in three away games. They lost to Metallurg (2:4 and 1:2 OT) and to the same Sibir (0:2).

First period

Confirming the pre-match predictions, Barys looked more active at the start of the game. 19:7 – with that score the hosts outshot the regularly penalised visitors in the first period (penalty time 7:13). However, the only goal was scored by the Far Easterners. At the midpoint of the first period, Yaroslav Likhachev scored on the power play.

Second period

Trailing for the first time in the regular season, Barys continued to stick to their game in the second period. However, history almost repeated itself. 21:14 in shots, 1:1 on the scoreboard. Khabarovsk's Artyom Shvarev's goal was answered by Garrett Pilon – 1:2.

Third period

In the third period, the charges of Mikhail Kravets, who was coaching his 450th KHL match, did not slow down. But this time the finishing of scoring chances let them down. A desperate final assault on Maxim Dorozhko's goal in a 6-on-4 format also brought no success. Moreover, the visitors scored into an empty net.

Barys suffered their first defeat of the championship – 1:3.

About the KHL regular season

The KHL regular season, which started on 5 September, will last until 20 March 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. Based on the results of the regular season, 8 teams from each conference earn the right to participate in the playoffs. The current holder of the Gagarin Cup is Yaroslavl's Lokomotiv, which beat Ak Bars of Kazan in six matches in the May final series.

Having played three times at Barys Arena at the start of the tournament, the Astana side sets off on a tour along the route Tolyatti – Magnitogorsk – Yaroslavl – Moscow.
