Kazakhstan's hockey club Barys suffered a 1:4 defeat to Yekaterinburg's Avtomobilist in a KHL regular-season match. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The hosts of UGMK Arena took revenge for their defeat in Astana two weeks ago by the same score. Mikhail Kravets' charges were playing the fourth game of a nine-match road series. Barys Arena is occupied by the World Wrestling Championships, and there are no other hockey venues in Astana that meet KHL standards. Barys played its last home match before the road series on October 14 against Avtomobilist. The team's next home game will be on November 12 against Admiral.

Match result

🏒 AVTOMOBILIST (Yekaterinburg, Russia) – BARYS (Astana, Kazakhstan) 4:1 (2:0, 1:1, 1:0)

Goals: Tarasov (Kashtanov, Denezhkin) 12:48 (1:0), Sprong (Clague, Yudin) 14:17 (2:0), Gorbunov (Kadeikin, Gross) 21:03-PP (3:0), Massie (Pilon, Priske) 39:05 (3:1), Gross (Golyshev, Karpukhin) 46:30 (4:1).

Statistical advantage

Barys's defeat came despite the visitors winning in shots (36:35), faceoffs won (28:24), takeaways (4:1), hits (10:8) and other metrics.

The decisive factor was the goaltending. Yekaterinburg's Evgeny Alikin rescued his team far more often than Astana's Hunter Shepard. The Kazakh team's goaltending problem is becoming more obvious with every match. The lone goal by Barys's Jake Massie late in the second period was not enough for a comeback.

After losing 1:4, the Kazakhs remained in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
